They made a difference! Equipped with inflatable toys, melted plastic, and solar power, two students from Columbia University created light! Turning a mere school project into a real-life, useable creation! The “LuminAID,” as it is being called, is an emergency lightsource that will be shipped to Haiti and other disaster stricken areas in place of bulky, heavy flashlights! Talk about “Innovation at the Verge!”

The pocket-size, foldable LED light is a big hit with businesses, organizations and individuals around the world who work in disaster relief. Creators, Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta have managed to raise more than $50,000 for production of the innovative gadget.
